A saved photo filter changes pixel values. Unfilter estimates a more neutral color balance by correcting channel bias, contrast, saturation, fade, and sharpness. It works best when the scene is still visible beneath a warm, cool, washed-out, or over-saturated look. It cannot reveal pixels hidden by stickers, rebuild a face changed by an AR effect, or know the exact colors removed by black-and-white conversion.

What is a photo filter remover?

A photo filter remover is an editor that tries to reduce the visible effect of color grading or tonal adjustments in a saved image. It cannot press an “undo” button on another app, because exported JPG, PNG, and WebP files usually contain only the final pixel values—not the editing history. A practical remover therefore estimates a more neutral result from the pixels that remain. Unfilter measures channel balance and luminance distribution, then lets you adjust temperature, tint, exposure, contrast, saturation, fade, and sharpness. This approach can improve warm, cool, sepia-like, faded, or over-saturated photos while preserving the scene already present. It does not uncover areas hidden by stickers, reverse face geometry, or recover exact colors from a black-and-white conversion. Those tasks require the original file or a generative tool that creates a plausible replacement rather than restoring known data.

Questions people ask before they unfilter

Can a photo filter be completely removed?

Not exactly. Once a filtered image is saved, some original pixel information may be changed or discarded. Unfilter estimates a more natural color and tonal balance from the pixels that remain.

Does Unfilter upload my image?

No. The current tool has no photo upload endpoint. Decoding, preview processing, and export happen with Canvas in your browser, so your selected image stays on your device.

Which filters respond best?

Global color and tone edits respond best: warm or cool casts, sepia-like color, excessive saturation, faded blacks, flat contrast, and mild softness. Results depend on how strongly the saved image was altered.

Can it remove stickers, emojis, or face effects?

No. A sticker or AR face effect covers or replaces pixels. This color-correction tool does not invent hidden content or rebuild facial geometry. Use the original photo or a clearly labeled image-inpainting tool instead.

Can it restore color to a black-and-white photo?

It cannot recover the exact original colors because those color values were discarded. Colorization software can estimate plausible colors, but that is a new interpretation rather than a true reversal.

Which file types can I use?

Unfilter accepts JPG, PNG, and WebP files up to 20 MB. It exports JPG or PNG. Very large images are resized to a maximum safe working resolution of 16 megapixels for browser stability.
